Oregon Statehood
Commemorative Stamp
Hope you got your Sesquicentennial Stamp in Oregon City.
It’s
unique in Oregon!
Stamp
collectors and history buffs had an opportunity to add a specially
designated First Day Cover to their stamp collection at 8:30 AM on
Wednesday, January 14th at Oregon City’s city hall and the city’s US
Post Office.
Oregon’s Sesquicentennial stamp was available to the public that
day, and Oregon City had two locations for purchase of the stamp,
special postmark, and cover designed by two Oregon City High School art
students.
Through
a cooperative effort with the Postal Service and City of Oregon City,
Oregon’s ‘first city’ had a special postmark that says ‘First City
Station.’ Other cities and locations around the state say
‘Sesquicentennial Station.’
In
addition, an envelope with a colored rendition of Oregon City landmarks,
designed by Cody Hotaling or a black & white design by Heather Winslow,
is still available for $5.00 with a plastic cover. The artists are students in Rocky Smith’s art class at Oregon
City High School. Smith is also a new city commissioner who took
office January 7th.
Dan
O’Donnell, the Postmaster in Oregon City, was at city hall from
8:30-10 AM to offer the new First Day stamps, First Day postmarks, and
First Day covers to the public. The offerings were available
at the Oregon City Post Office during normal business hours.
There
was also a
First-Day-of-Issue Ceremony held at the World Forestry Center,
Miller Hall in Portland on the 14th at 11:00 AM. |
